A domain name is only the address; the website still needs hosting and real functions
After buying a main domain, you still need somewhere to run the site, DNS records that send visitors to that host, and an HTTPS certificate. MDN’s guide to how the web works and its explanation of web servers are useful starting points.
What do virtual host and web space mean?
- Web space usually means disk space and service resources on a hosting provider where your website files, images, logs, and sometimes databases are stored.
- Virtual host can mean a shared-hosting account for one site, or a web-server configuration that maps one domain to one site directory. In both cases, it is not the same thing as the domain name itself.
- Server or VPS usually gives more control than simple shared hosting, but also requires more maintenance, security updates, and backups.
Basic launch checklist
- Choose the site type. A static HTML/CSS site, WordPress site, custom application, or classified marketplace needs different hosting and maintenance.
- Buy hosting or prepare a server. Confirm the web root path, database support if needed, and how files are uploaded or deployed.
- Bind DNS to the host. Create the A, AAAA, CNAME, or nameserver records at the active DNS provider, not necessarily the company where the domain was purchased.
- Upload or deploy the site. Put the homepage, CSS, scripts, images, and other assets in the correct public directory. MDN has a practical guide on how to upload files to a web server.
- Enable HTTPS. Issue and install a certificate for the exact hostnames you use, such as
example.comandwww.example.com. - Test the public URL. Open the site from another network if possible and check navigation, images, forms, accounts, and mobile layout.
If you want a Ganji-like classified marketplace
A classified-information or marketplace site is more than a few pages. Besides public category pages, it normally needs user accounts, posting and editing flows, search and filters, location/category management, admin review or moderation, abuse reporting, payment or membership logic if used, data protection, backups, logs, and long-term maintenance. The exact feature list depends on the business model; do not promise traffic, postings, or operating results just because the software is launched.
Forms and data need a real backend
An HTML form alone does not send reliable inquiries. The action URL must point to a server-side handler, form service, or CMS plugin that stores or emails submissions. For account or marketplace features, plan authentication, permissions, spam control, privacy notices, and data retention before launch.
Business registration, ICP filing, and permits are different questions
Business registration is not the same as ICP filing. ICP filing relates to websites deployed on mainland China infrastructure, while company/business registration, value-added telecom permits, marketplace rules, paid membership, advertising, user-generated content, and local trade requirements can depend on region, operating entity, industry, charging model, and actual services. Check the current instructions from the hosting provider and the relevant local regulator or professional adviser before launch; do not treat one generic website checklist as legal confirmation.
